You may not be familiar with acacia, but this beautiful hardwood is a hidden gem when it comes to flooring. While it has a few quirks, acacia wood is very durable and dramatic, making it a unique yet practical choice for North Vancouver homes.

Appearance & Durability
Acacia has a soft, swirling grain pattern with distinctive color variation. One plank may range from chocolate brown to caramel hues to pale yellow. It also has knots and other natural imperfections, which help add character to the wood. However, if you prefer a traditional-looking wood floor, acacia may not be for you.
Like many exotic species, acacia is very resistant to dents and scratches. It has a Janka rating of over 1700, making it about as durable as hickory wood.
The Best of Both Worlds
Acacia is primarily native to Australia and Africa. It has a deep brown hue and dramatic color variation that makes it look similar to other exotic hardwoods. However, acacia is versatile enough that it can be grown in Asia and North America, so it isn’t as expensive as rare, imported species.
You should keep in mind that most acacia planks are no longer than four feet, due to the small size of the acacia tree. If you are looking for longer hardwood planks, you may want to consider other options.
